About how much energy does a 5 cubic foot “Energy-Star” efficient chest freezer use, on average? I’m moving in May and would like to take it with me to the new place. I’ve never paid electric, due to the fact that the house I am living in only has one electric meter (so the landlord pays for the electric.) If it weren’t for this fact, I would probably already know the answer to this question, but alas..I don’t. Any ideas?

They use very little.
You can reference the part number at energystar.gov and look up the KWh.
To figure monthly
Take the total KWh, devide it by 12 (It gives annual on the site).
Take that number and multiply it by the price per KWH. Usually it is .11 cents to 13 cents.
Most of those freezers use around 10 or so KWH a month. My GUESSTIMATE would be about $1 a month in power. But 5 cubic is Very small. You may be surprised.

I bought a small upright freezer & haven’t seen much change in my electric bill, so it can’t be using a whole lot.

Usually about .08-.10 cents a day or $3.00 a month.Electricity is right up there with gas now.In fact my electric bill is higher than my gas bill and I have gas furnace, water heater and stove. My electric bill runs about $170 a month in winter and about $190 in summer because of the air conditioner.Where as my gas runs about $150 in winter and $40 in summer.

I bought a 7.1 cubic foot chest freezer and haven’t really noticed a huge change in the power bill. I’d say it probably costs me maybe $3.00 a month or so.
