Whirlpool 2 door frost-free, freezer on top. No power for a fortnight, huge growth inside freezer. It has gotten into thermal insulation, How do I remove it, or do I need to call a service engineer?

If it’s gotten into the insulation, then I’m nor sure it can be fixed… better call for service.

if it is into the insulation, you can most likely purchase an new one for less money than the cost of its removal.

I had one that was turned off with a small amount of food in it. It was horrible – hold your breath empty as much as you could, run for fresh air- you get the picture – NOT good.
I was able to clean the plastic, then take it apart and clean the insides.
It got about 95% of the smell taken away in the first 3 days, and the rest dissipated over time.
Be sure to get the drip line from the freezer to the evaporator pan underneath the fridge, and also check to see if you need to clean the pan also.
There is a battery operated “ozonator” on the market now that may be just the ticket to help keep the mold from coming back.
Hope this helps!
